Colorado Mesa swept by Drury

In Thursday's first match at the Drury Tournament in Springfield, Missouri, the Colorado Mesa Volleyball team's high-percentage attack fell flat in a 25-14, 25-18, 25-16 loss to the host Panthers.

The Mavericks (3-2), who entered the match with a .238 attack percentage, hit .091 in the loss.

Kasie Gilfert led Mesa with nine kills, hitting .200, and Camille Smith added six, but hit only .040.

CMU men win Pueblo Duals opener

The Colorado Mesa men's tennis team started the Pueblo Duals off with a victory, beating Dallas Baptist 5-2. The Mavericks swept the doubles matches to earn one team point and then won four of the six singles matches.

Christian Albrechtsen, Mesa's No. 1 singles player, got the singles portion off to a strong start with a 6-3, 6-1 victory. No. 2 singles player Alain De La Bastide won 7-6 (7-5), 7-5, No. 4 singles player Tyler Landen won 6-1, 6-1 and No. 5 singles player Steven Howe won 7-6 (7-4), 7-5.

The CMU women's tennis team lost a 4-3 heartbreaker to Dallas Baptist at the Pueblo Duals. With the score tied 3-3, Mavericks No. 6 singles player Lauren Thomas lost 2-6, 6-4, 10-3 to give the Patriots the win. No. 1 singles player Kristen Kirby won in straight sets and No. 3 singles player Rebecca Osterberg and No. 5 singles player Maike Waldburger both won in three sets.
