The Colorado Mesa men’s soccer team extended their winning streak to five games with a 2-0 win over Westminster College at Maverick Field on Wednesday night.

Daisuke Takanaka put the 12th-ranked Mavericks on the scoreboard only 2:26 into the match with an unassisted goal, his second of the season.

The 1-0 score held until the 83rd minute when Alec Fronapfel scored his sixth goal of the season off of an assist from Colton Shafer. Fronapfel’s goal puts him in a four-way tie for second in the RMAC in goals.

The Mavericks (11-2, 5-0) outshot the Griffins 23-12 with four on goal. Goalkeeper Connor Durant stopped each of the Griffins’ (6-7, 3-2) three shots on goal for his RMAC-leading sixth shutout of the season.

The Mavericks now hold a one-game lead over Colorado School of Mines for first place in the RMAC with five games remaining.
