Marcus LaBonde followed his 36-point game Thursday with a team-high 20 points on Friday as the Fruita Monument boys basketball team rolled over Coronado, New Mexico, 82-23 in the Aztec Tournament.

LaBonde scored 13 points in the first quarter as the Wildcats (7-4) raced to a 28-6 lead over the Leopards (4-6).

Dillon Keithley was Fruita’s second-leading scorer with 12 points. Jack Hawkins and Ian Barnes both finished with 11 points.

In addition to reaching a season high in points scored, Fruita was also smothering defensively. Twelve of Coronado’s 24 points came in the fourth quarter against the Wildcats’ bench.

Girls basketball

Leah Redding scored 19 points, 12 in the third quarter, as Central defeated D’Evelyn 47-28 in the Roughrider Shootout at Roosevelt High School.

Mya Murdock made three 3-pointers and finished with 11 points for the Warriors (6-2). Roni Brown added eight points as Central opened 2020 with its second straight win.

The Warriors outscored the Jaguars (6-3) 28-16 after halftime to pull away.

“They are a huge pressing team, full- and half-court press,” said Central coach Mary Doane. “They’ve been turning people over like no other. My girls handled the ball well and forced them to play half court.”

Fruita Monument 39, Littleton 34: Playing in the Chatfield Tournament, the Wildcats improved to 11-1 with their third straight victory by edging the Lions (5-2).

Callie Allen led Fruita with 13 points and Emily Richardson added 11 with two 3-pointers. Bailey Rigsby chipped in eight points for the Wildcats.
