Grand Junction 1-1, Ogden 1-1
The final game of the three-game series will be the final game of the season for one team tonight at Suplizio Field. Ogden used three home runs to even the series 1-1, setting up the if-necessary game at 5 tonight at Suplizio Field. The winner advances to play Great Falls for the Pioneer League championship in a best-of-three series that begins Tuesday.
If Grand Junction wins, the Rockies will host Game 1 at 6:40 p.m. on Tuesday.
The key inning
Tied 2-2 in the bottom of the fourth inning, a rare outfield error by Niko Decolati set up Ogden's big inning. Dillon Paulson reached on the error, one of three committed by Grand Junction, and Niko Hulsizer walked.
James Outman hit a three-run home run to right-center and the Rockies never quite recovered from the 5-2 deficit.
Trying to rally
John Cresto hit a leadoff home run in the top of the fifth inning and the Rockies manufactured another run to pull within 5-4.
Cristopher Navarro followed the home run with a base hit and moved up on a wild pitch. With two out, Coco Montes singled up the middle to score Navarro, and Grant Lavigne walked. Decolati loaded the bases with an infield single, but Javier Guevara flied out to right, ending the Rockies' best chance.
They did add one run in the sixth when Daniel Montano, who hit a solo home run in the third inning, led off with a double. A passed ball got him to third and Cresto got him home with a base hit to left. With two out, a wild pitch moved Cresto to second, but Hunter Stovall struck out.
Grand Junction stranded a runner at second base in the seventh inning and one at third in the eighth.
At the plate
Montes went 3 for 5 and is hitting .444 in the playoff series, Cresto was 3 for 3 as the Rockies' designated hitter, with one home run and two RBI, and Montano went 2 for 4 with a home run.
Ogden got two home runs from Outman and one from Hulsizer.
