Aspen wins title at Battlement Mesa
Led by Nic Penvy's round of 2-over-par 74, Aspen High School won the second boys prep golf tournament of the season Friday at Battlement Mesa.
Jordan Jennings of Montrose was one stroke back at 75 and Fruita Monument's Josh Stouder shot a 78 to finish third.
The Skiers' Cole Kennedy was fourth with an 80, helping Aspen shoot a team score of 242, one stroke ahead of Fruita Monument. Montrose was third at 247, Summit fourth at 259 and Fort Morgan fifth at 260. Tournament host Grand Junction finished sixth at 267, Palisade was seventh at 273 and Central eighth at 286.
Carson Kerr shot an 81 to lead the Tigers, tying for fifth place, and Nate Frahm tied for 10th with an 84.
The Wildcats got an eighth-place finish from Kade Hayward, who shot an 82, and Brayden Kelley was ninth, one stroke back.
Jorge Bolanos had Central's low score, an 85, which tied him for 12th place, and Palisade was led by Logan Woll's 87, which was 15th.
