Micah Stangebye is in good position to go back-to-back.

The Montrose High School golfer, who won the Class 4A state title last year, leads this year's state tournament by three strokes at Bridges Golf and Country Club after day one.

Stangebye shot 4 under par 67. Fellow Indian Ryan Lords is tied for fifth at 2-over 73. Jordan Jennings sits at 6-over 77 and Jake Legg is 20-over 91.

Also in the 4A tournament, Palisade's Ethan Aubert shot 5-over 76 to enter today tied for 10th. His teammate, Logan Woll, shot 24-over 95. Central's Zach Wilson is 14-over 85.

In the 5A tournament at Maxwell Course at Pinehurst Country Club in Denver, Grand Junction's Carson Kerr is tied for 23rd after shooting 6-over 76. Fruita Monument's Josh Stouder and Kade Hayward shot 13-over 83 and 16-over 86.

In the 3A tournament at Eisenhower Golf Course at the Air Force Academy, Delta's Ben Cooper and Atley Harris shot 19-over 91 and 20-over 92, respectively. Grant Freed shot 37-over 109.
